Lord Dhanwantari

Lord Dhanwantari, as per hindu Vedas and Puranas, is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Dhanvantari is said to be the God of Ayurvedic medicine and physician of the Gods.Lord Dhanvantari is worshiped by devotees to seek his blessings and for sound health. Lord Dhanwantari is portrayed as “Chatur Bahu” Vishnu (with four hands), holding medical herbs in one hand and a pot containing rejuvenating nectar called amrita in another.

Incarnation of Lord Dhanvantari

According to Shreemad Bhagwat and Sushrut Samhita , Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the ocean with a pot of Amrit when the ocean of milk was churned by Gods and demons for Amrita (nectar). Goddess Mahalakshmi also re-born on the same day and therefore the birthdays of Goddess Lakshmi (Dhan Teras) and Lord Dhanvantari are celebrated on the same day. Lord Dhanvantari emerged out of the ocean holding Amrit Pot, Shankha, Chakra and Jalauka in his four hands. Lord Dhanvantari protects all living beings from diseases, untimely death and eliminates sorrows.

Shani-Deva Lord Shani Deva

Shani dasha or period is inevitable in every one’s life.Legend goes that even devas are not spared by shani [only exceptions being clever Ganapathy and powerful Anjaneya]

So if you or any of your relatives/friends are going through this difficult period [ of 7.5 years or sade sathi] , then use the following proven rituals to reduce the adverse impacts and lead a peaceful life:

1.  Shani Mantra

Please make it a point to recite this short shani mantra for 108 times every day.If not having time, atleast do 8 times daily to tide through this testing period in life.

Neelanjana Samabhasam                                                                          Raviputhram Yamagrajam                                                                                Chaya Marthanda Sambhootham                                                                  Tham Namamy Shanaishyaram.

2. Hanuman Chalisa

Hanuman is supposed to be “Chiran jeevi” or the one with infinite life on earth. While he was on his way to Lanka to find Seetha Devi , he has seen “Navagrahas” being captured and tied together by Ravana.Navagrahas knew that only Anjaneya has the power to release them from the clutches of  evil king Ravana. They worshipped Hanuman and requested him to free them from lanka.Hanuman immediately realised the presence of Shani bhagavan amongst the Navagrahas and asked him “If i release you , you will look at me and i will be under your spell for 7.5 years”.For this Shani replied that he will not do that and even spare those who worship Anjaneya from the ill effects of shani dasha. So recite “Hanuman Chalisa” on Tuesday,Thursday&Saturday. If not possible on all 3 days atleast on Tuesday.Visit Hanuman temple on every Saturday during your Shani Dasha period.

3. Mrityunjaya Mantra

If your Shani Dhasha effect is very severe (which can be known from your “Janma Kundali” or ” Horoscope ” ) then to protect you from the fear of untimely accidents / deceases recite “Mrityunjaya Mantra” atleast once before starting your day:

Om Thryambakam Yajamahe                                                                 Sugandhim PushtiVardhanam                                                                         Urvarukamiva Bandhanath                                                                             Mrithyor Mooshiyamamrith.

4. Navagraha Mantra

Chanting of  “Eka sloka Navagraha Stotram” (Short mantra for all 9 grahas) is also good to ward off adverse effects of  grahas which are not in a favourable position in your horoscope.Go to my previous post for more details- click here.

9) A Not-to-Do List

During  Shani Dasha you will be tempted to do many things which may look  harmless in the beginning, but with your bad Shani positioning it can become serious issues. So during this period try to avoid the following :

Being a witness in any legal agreements , Participating in  Adventure Sports (like Bungie Jumping , Water Rafting , F1 Car Race etc.) , Arguments at work place or during driving (Road rage), Non punctuality at work place, Carelessness , Travelling alone (especially at night time)

Lord_Shiva-image&Significance

Ohm NaMah ShiVaYa
Om Nama Shivaya
Om Namah Shivaya

Many knows this is the “panchakshari” (5 letter) beeja or moola mantra for lord Shiva.
Now where are these 5 letters ? What is the significance of this mantra? What is the meaning of this mantra?
Let’s look at the excerpts from ” Avdhoot Babaji’s ” question & answer session:

“Shiv Panchakshari Mantra is drawn from the five elements of nature namely, Earth, Sky, Water, Air and Fire. This Mantra is capable of cleansing up all these elements. See of this Bija Mantra has all the characteristics of its parent body. In a way it is a miniscule of its parent form, complete with everything. A Seed of a gigantic banyan tree is a comparatively tiny object but it has everything in it, right from trunk, leaves and other attributes. Shiv Panchakshari Mantra is evolved from the five seeds of aforesaid natural elements, Namah Shivaya. Na Consecrates Prithvi Tatva, Ma does the same with Jal Tatva (Water factor) Shi energizes Agni Tatva (Fire element) Va energizes Vayu Tatva (Air factor) and finally Ya energizes Akash Tatva (Sky element). Om purifies Bramhatatva and Crown Chakra.

Whevever a Sadhak invokes this Mantra during meditation or Tandav, he does so giving the impression as if he is applying percussion beats on every Chakra, using the skillful strokes of a Tabla Player. On the note of Na he starts from Muladhara, with Ma he reaches Swadisthar, as he says Shi he enters Manipur and at Anahata he produces the sound Vaya. In a subtle manner if you look at the whole pattern it seems like a sequence of percussion notes of Mridang (musical instrument).

Shiv Panchakshari Mantra has terrific vibrations which cleanse all five elements present inside the body.  “

All the “panchabhootas” are tied together with the string of lord shiva’s shakthi to make this beautiful mantra “garland”.

It’s evident from many other old scriptures like “Shiva Purana” and “Vedas” that chanting of this basic panchakshari mantra itself will lead the devotee or seeker towards “moksha” or “Eternal Bliss” or “Success (Both spiritual&materialistic)”.

So chant or sing panchakshari and be with Shiva in the bliss trance !!!

Ohm NaMah ShiVaYa
Om Nama Shivaya
Om Namah Shivaya
Ohm Nama Shivaya

Ohm Shivoham … Ohm Shivoham…. Rudra Namam Bhajeham….Bhajeham……

Navagraha Ganapathy

Hindus all over the world follow birth charts based on NavaGrahas (9 planets).Modern science may not agree with this but also cannot prove against it too.It is said that the position of these 9 planets at the time of birth , determines the characteristics and fate of a person’s life.It may be hard to digest in the millennium years, but look at this possibility :

We all know that gravitational force exists. We also are aware of the low and high tides in the sea(Caused by the gravitational pull of moon on earth).Imagine the same invisible pull and push forces which exist between earth and the other planets.Ancient sagas found that these web of magnetic forces which navagrahas (9 planets) exerts on earth is significant enough to cause changes in the brain pattern of a newborn baby.Based on this effects, billions of permutations and combinations of the planetary positions were analysed and based on that the science of astrology came into existence.

Navagraha Pooja

To ward off the ill effects and improve the positive energy by favorable planetary positions you can chant the following sloka for Navagrahas :

Aarogyam pradadathuno Dinakara / Chandro yasho nirmalam

Bhoomim Bhoomisutha Sudhaamshu Thanaya / Prajyam Gurur gourava

Kavya komala Vagvila samathulam / Mandho mudam sarvada

Rahur bahu balam virodha shamanam / Kethur kulasonnayathim

After chanting this sloka for 1 0r 8 /16/64/108 times chant the following for 8 times :

Oam Navagrahaya Namaha

There is no harm in creating a positive electromagnetic force , which envelops you invisibly all the times.By chanting this mantra your negative effects due to bad “dasha” or planetary positions will be significantly reduced.Agree that fate/karma cannot be changed but definitly the ill effects can be diluted by devotion to god (Enegy beyond our definition). This mantra will help you to remove “grahadoshams” and serve as a quick fix for all of us with nil or little time to spare.

Om Ganapathaye Namaha

Ganapathy or Ganesha holds a very important place in all hindu rituals. He is the god who can destroy all “Vighnas” (hurdles) in what ever task you are going to undertake.

This makes him a “Star” among gods and millions are doing his worship. In olden day’s there was even a religion or sect called ” Ganapathyam” with Ganapathy as the main deity of worship.

Doing his pooja everyday can bring you prosperity , fame and will decrease ill effects of bad “dashas” (Phases) in your horoscope.

But in today’s hectic life style we cannot dedicate many hours for this daily ritual.I have compiled here few “Mantras” , which can be chanted with in about 10 minutes.

Preparation :

Ganesh pooja to be done preferably in the morning.Take a shower and wear clean/washed cloths.

Can offer your prayers to a Ganesha photo or idol based on availability.

Keep some fresh flowers if they are available.

Starting Pooja:

Take a deep breath and chant ” OM……. “

Offer a flower to the idol , placing or touching it at bhagavan’s feet.[If you are not having flowers offer a "Sankalpa" pooja by imagining about offering flowers to him.]

Open your eyes and start reading/chanting the following Slokas :

Dhyanam :

Param Dhaama param brahma paresham Parameeshvaram / Vighna nighna haram shantham pushpam kanthamananthakam / sura surendri sidhendra sthutham sthoumy paraltparam

Surapadham dinesham cha ganesham mangalayanam / Idam Stotram mahapunyam vighna shoka haram param / yah padheth pratharuthaya sarva vighnath pramuchyathe /

[Offer flower]

Vidya Ganesha Ashtotthara Shatham :

[Offer flowers after completing every 2 lines of this sloka]

Vidya ganapathir vighnaharo gaja mukho avyah / Vigyanathma vichathkayo vishvakaro vinayakaha

Sarvagra samaranandi samsidha gananayakaha / samba pramodako vajree manaso modaka priyaha

Eaka dantho bruhathkushchir deerkha thundo vikarnnakaha / Brahmanda kanduka schitravarnna schitra radhasanaha

Thejeswee theekshna dhishana shakthi vrinda nishevithaha /Para parascha pashyanthi prananadha pramatha hrut

Sumklipshta madhyama spashto vaikharee janaka suchihi / dharma pravarthaka kamo bhoomi sphuritha vigraha

Thapaswee tharunollasee yoginee bhoga tatparaha / Jithendriyo jayasreeko janma mrityu vidaranaha

Jagath gurura meyatma jangama sthavarathmakaha / namaskara priyo nanamatha bheda vibhedakaha

sarva saakshee sadanandi sarvaloka priyankaraha / sarvatheetha samarasa sathyavasa satham gathihi

After this offer flowers chanting ” Ohm Gam Ganapathaye Namaha” ( 8 Times)

Prostrate infront of the idol or photo and surrender yourself to him.Imagine in your mind all your wishes and pray for the fulfillment of them.

Then being in the same position ask forgiveness to him for any mistakes done (knowingly or unknowingly) during the pooja.

Stand-up, slowly open your eyes and take darshan of the idol again.

I will be posting more detailed Ganesh Pooja with elaborate/complete ritual which you all can do on week ends.

Parenting is something which words cannot express. It’s something you have to go through , experience [Smell of hospital, touch of a new born baby, sleepless nights etc.]

Hey!! i am not complaining , after all it is a wonderful life changing experience (not like the one’s management gurus promise you! )

Trying to jot down the sweet memories and my learnings from the innocence of a 1.5 year old boy(my son).

During this period i have learned lot of new terms/vocabulary like :

a)nappy b)rocker c)Size zero ….. terms which i was blissfully unaware earlier!!!

Another set of “luxuries” like Morning newspaper reading ritual, watching TV, Cleanly arranged home etc. vanished from my life during this period. Also found out that all babies have a weakness towards neatly folded clothes, newspaper, crockery etc.!!!

Absence of these privileges are more than compensated by the playfulness of my son.Watching him is like watching a bud becoming a flower. His baby talk is better than any music to me.(Though i am not forgetting his screaming sessions !!!)

I feel the enormous responsibility of guiding him to become a responsible person, assisting him to grow into an emotionally and socially balanced individual.

Watching him is like taking a time machine journey, hours pass by without notice. My spiritual guru ( www.artofliving.org ) used to tell us in his speeches to be a kid always.True meaning of that is unfolding infront of me through my son.Take a small scenario like below :

He will ask for something which cannot be given(Like sharp objects or medicine packs).we will deny it and he will start crying and throw a big tantrum.Sometimes he will scold us,with both his little hands raised, and in a language which is known to him and god only. The very next moment something else which is silly to us (read grown ups) , will catch his attention. With tears rolling down his cheeks , he will start smiling.Smile, which is like the first ray of sunlight on a cloudy day. This will be followed by a loud laughter which touches your soul.

For a moment he is crying, the next it is all smiles. He is living in the moment. He has left his unhappiness and embraced his pleasant self with ease.Compare this with us adults , we will take bad remarks/incidents into our memory, store it there for long(Some times for a whole life time!!!) and brood anger against the person who made the remarks. If only we can be kids at mind, we can have much less burden to carry with us.

Recent research also shows that a kid smiles 400-500 times in a day but when he or she grows up it becomes 10-15 smiles per day! (I know people who are even below this range on being happy !!!) . So try to be a kid in your mind.Live in the moment.Don’t keep anger or ill feeling in your mind.It is garbage.Throw it out as early as possible.SMILE more often.

All said and done , our little kid is like a sun, lighting-up our lives with his innocence and making us thankful to god everyday, every moment…………
